Now is the traditional summing-up time of the year, when past accomplishments or failures are examined and we submit all that was good—and bad—for review. While 2022 offered many oenological high points, there were also plenty of points I’d prefer not to repeat. Here, in no particular order, are seven wine-world phenomena I’d like to say goodbye to as we look ahead to 2023:

1. Advent Calendars

Overall wine quality has never been higher than it is today; it’s easy to find a good wine just about anywhere. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t bad wine around…….

I’m thinking of it as the beer world’s Great Flattening.

Good beer has become ubiquitous, at least here in the Midwest, and great beer has become so common that it really isn’t as conspicuous as it used to be. Beer quality is becoming flatter not because the ceiling is falling but because the floor is rising.

When there’s less FOMO, I feel more comfortable choosing beers that are more about balance and drinkability than those that demand your attention. Beers to drink while socializing, rath…….

The start of ‘Dry January,’ a month when many people avoid drinking alcohol, typically brings a heightened level of attention to non-alcoholic drinks. But the CEO of one of the leading non-alcoholic beer companies said that the demand for non-alcoholic brews is booming well beyond a single month.

“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for in the category,” Bill Shufelt, Athletic Brewing CEO, said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box “on Wednesday.

Long a sleepy category within the broader industry of beer, non-alcoholic beer has seen its growth skyrocket in recent years as bigger beer giants l…….

The Home Brewery building on Mansfield Road, Daybrook is one of the more distinctive buildings in Nottingham and it has a long history as a brewery. Home Ales and Shipstone’s were two of the most prominent Nottingham city brands but sadly neither is around today.

The founding father of The Home Brewery Company was Thomas Robinson who was a farmer from Arnold with a malting business. When he passed away, his youngest son, John took over the business and half of his farm. By adding more property to this, John and his brother opened the Daybrook Laundry before going on to create the bre…….

ANN ARBOR, MI – Welcome to the last week of 2022. With New Year’s resolutions coming down the pipeline, let me suggest one way to precede those good habits with some indulgent ones.

HOMES Brewery, known for its Korean pub fare and host of draft beers, does French fries five ways — bulgogi, kimchi, Thai chicken, toga and plain. Each have their salty, sweet and spicy advantages.

As New Year’s Eve approaches, you may be looking for some last-minute appetizers to delight guests without spending too much time in the kitchen.

Consider trying this recipe for “Crab Cake Stuffed Mushroom Caps,” developed by the food company, Mind Blown.

“For decades, we’ve been creating traditional crab cakes in small batches – by hand – through our company The Van Cleve Seafood Co. They’re one of our best-selling items,” Monica Talbert, co-founder of Mind Blown told Fox News Digital.

Cake’s relatively short shelf life means it goes dry and unpalatable even before it goes completely off. The Danes’ answer to this problem are romkugler, or zero-waste rum truffles made from leftover cake, jam and rum that are sold in almost every bakery in Denmark, and save an unquantifiable amount of cake from going to waste.

Trine Hahnemann, chef, food writer and owner of the Hahnemanns Køkken bakery and cafe in Copenhagen, tells me more: “In my bakery, we never throw out any cakes. All the cakes that are too old to sell, we save and f…….

Have you made a New Year’s resolution to lose some weight and stay in shape? If you are a frequent traveler, that goal is twice as hard. Why? Let’s face it, when you travel, usually your diet-and-exercise routine takes a vacation of its own.

But I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way. I’ve been a professional travel writer for more than 30 years, and I’ve maintained my size-four shape, despite hundreds of heavy meals on the road, and mountains of demanding work, and I’m 67 years old. People ask me all the time how I do it. These are my strategies – …….

For decades, scientists have studied lifespan to determine the impact of the factors that dictate how humans age.

But in recent years, researchers have begun looking into a newer phenomenon: healthspan.

Lifespan and healthspan will always overlap in some way, but there is a major difference between the two, says Alan Cohen, associate professor at the Butler Columbia Aging Center at Columbia University.

Here’s how each term is defined and how diet may play a role in lengthening them both, according to Cohen.

Wisconsinites who want to sell homemade goodies to friends, neighbors and the public no longer have to stick to baked goods like cakes and cookies.

Dane County Circuit Court Judge Rhonda Lanford ruled this week that other nonhazardous food items, not just baked goods, can be made and sold from home without a commercial license or kitchen, which plaintiffs argued can be cost-prohibitive. That includes items like candy, cocoa bombs, fried donuts and roasted coffee beans.

Many of those who want to sell homemade goods are people like moms with young children who hop…….
